Vacation Baby
As travel agent for this spring vacation to Hilton Head, I breathed a huge sigh of relief as we walked into the 3 bedroom condo we had rented for 4 days. I had been wracked with nervousness about whether things would be as I had planned, whether the condo would really be as nice as advertised, whether we would feel that we got a good value for our money, etc. Whew! The place was perfect for our little group, and we had a great time. We had a ocean views from every room, and Josh & I slept with our balcony door open almost every night. There's nothing more soothing than the ocean sounds. The Island was great, too. It had a great balance of beautiful surroundings plus proximity to things like restaurants, a Fresh Market, golf, and shops (although the girls did NOT go shopping, amazingly enough). Kate must have been soothed by the ocean sounds as well, because she slept really well -- even better than she does at home! Every morning we went out onto the beach for a bit, and we usually spent our afternoons at the pool. I made no attempts to get any sun, which is a huge change for me. Before we went out I was slathering myself with 30spf! Yet another sign of aging. Josh took care of Kate a lot for me, so I could relax by the pool or in the pool. :-) Lydia was a lot of fun to be around, and of course, she really loved hanging out with her cousin "the Kate." She knocked on the door almost every morning to ask if she could come in to our room. She couldn't get enough of Kate's toys and various "seats" as she calls them. One of her fav things to do is use Pup as a little baby, and place him in the bouncey seat or gym mat. Of course, she wasn't above playing with that little gym herself. She couldn't get enough of the musical fish. Another noticeable difference in this vacation was the total lack of game playing. Instead, we chose to read. . a lot! Yet another sign of parenthood.

While reading your post, I was ready to start looking for a spot in Hilton Head, but that might not be the best idea with only 7 weeks left. Sure does sound relaxing though. Glad you all had a great time. And welcome to the world of parenting. :) I love the observations you made as I am confident there will be many, many more. :)
I'm glad y'all had a good time at HH. My aunt lives in Hilton Head Plantation and Graham's family makes a yearly trek down there around Memorial day so needless to say, I've spent a LOT of time there. Where was the condo located?
I'm usually the travel agent for our family as well and I always breathe a sigh of relief when the place we stay turns out to be as nice as I had hoped. We've had really good luck with VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner.)
We don't have kids yet but I have always enjoyed reading a lot on vacation. Julie, Momma, my grandmother, and myself all love to read so we usually spend the months before vacation finding new books to read and then we share them on vacation. My biggest problem is not reading the books before I leave as I love new books!
Mostly it was surprising that we read to the exclusion of doing other things. I usually read quite a bit (on vacation and off), but I've noticed that my reading speed has slowed considerably. Also, time previously spent reading is now spent doing laundry, resting, scrubbing the bathroom, etc. I do like to read while nursing, when I can't do some of the aforementioned activities. I have walked around while nursing, and even cooked a little bit while nursing, but I don't imagine laundry would go over well with Katherine.
We stayed in the Palmetto Dunes Plantation at Windsor Place. :-)
Sounds like fun! Did Kate enjoy the beach? I love the first close up picture and the one of her in her carrier. I also like the picture of Lydia looking up at the camera.
Thanks for planning our vacation Liz - it was just what we needed! You got some great smiling pictures of "the Kate." =)
it's Miss J! Or, now, Mrs. Bailey. Hey, it's Abi Yates...it's been such a long time. Your little family is beautiful! :D I miss you all! I found you through Amy's blog...glad you are doing well!

Kate is, as always, adorable. But what strikes me most is Lydia doesn't look like a baby anymore; she looks like a little girl. It's amazing how quickly a baby goes from baby to little girl.
The last picture with Kate looks so cute! And Lydia looks so grown-up.

Elizabeth, thanks for the posts and pictures. Yes, the last picture of Kate look so adorable. For some reason, I see Aunt Sue there in her (when she was that age). What a gorgeous smile. . . and those big eyes. :)
Dad
Miss "Bright-Eyes" is rather adorable.
She has a hair style that looks much like mine...(I have about that same amount of hair.)
Her cousin is equally adorable. Won't they be a two-some (or more-some) to watch as they grow up.
Wish I lived closer.....Granny Marge
My favorite pic is of the two girls together; although the pics of Kate by herself are winners. I think Lydia is looking more like Jen in these pics. So far it's Baileys- 2, Johnsons- 0. Comom, Lauren, give us a boost!
