interpretations on a smile

One reason I love taking pictures is that some moments that happen too quickly for the mind's eye to register can be captured on film. These images can enrapture us or cause us to giggle. I find this particularly true with children because their expressions can change a mile a minute. Adults have usually figured out what to do when they are in front of a camera. Don't put your finger in your nose, don't blow bubbles, don't look at somebody you aren't dating yet with eyes of adoration & love. You get the picture! Well, this picture captured these cousins in a moment. Even my grumpy child adds some character to the shot! I can't get her to smile these days (for pictures, that is!). Enjoy....

Nathan (4.5 years), Lydia (3 years), Caroline (19 mos), Kate Sourpuss Bailey (20 months)

I can't figure out what this expression is saying. She knew I was taking pictures of her. . . Jennifer, can you fill in here?

She's smiling behind her choc-ate finger licking goodness. She helped Mima make the frosting for the brownies. yummy!

Nathan had a great time in the pool although he didn't enjoy the bigger kid's splashing, so he stayed in the hot tub w/ Lydia most of the time.

Thanks for taking a few shots yesterday. I especially love the group shot, and as you wrote, you captured many great expressions!
It was sweet to see how well Lydia and Nathan got along together during the visit.

You'll have to send me some of those. I don't think I got too many...and I didn't get any group shots.

I don't have any input for you on Caroline's expression. I asked Matt, but his response was "she's just lookin' atcha".

Jen, Nathan really enjoyed playing with Lydia. He's talked about it several times. Tonight, when he prayed before bed, he thanked God that he got to play with his cousin Lydia.

As I looked at the group shot again, I just couldn't help but giggle. The three kids are so obviously smiling "for the camera" & Kate is so obviously disdaining the camera, as though she is saying, I'm sooo above this!

Hi, Elizabeth!
I so enjoyed looking through your blog a bit, smiling when I read you are fond of Jane Austen...you should ask Kimberly...people used to tell her all the time she looked like Lizzy from P&P with Jennifer Ehle. She can put her hair up in amazing ways, and look just like her. :) It's been two weeks, and I miss you all already. Thanks for your sweet fellowship while we were there. Tell Josh and Kate hi for me! God bless.
Love you!
