Halloween

Although I grew up in a region and church where Halloween was dramatized as a huge holiday for Satan, I did go to a church that celebrated fall neatly on the same evening as Halloween. As a kid, I just thought it was a bit hypocritical to get kids to dress in sheets & turbans as Mary, Joseph, and Abraham but call it a Fall Festival. . do people dress up for Spring Festivals? Oh, do people even HAVE Spring Festivals? As an adult and parent, I've decided that the real reason this holiday is popular is that parents love dressing up their kids in costumes, and then the kids love getting candy. And who could blame either party. We decided to have fun and go to the Hebron Fall Festival with the cousins (and Megan & aunt & uncle). Unfortunately (or fortunately) for us, we got home too late to pass out candy, so my pantry is full of bite sized Snickers, M&Ms and who knows what else.

This year, we borrowed a costume from cousin Lydia, which fit Lydia a bit snugly seeing as it was a 6-12 monther and she was 16 months Oct 2006. However, the cozy leopard costume fit Kate just perfectly. She was sooo cute, and even though the festivities were made for cousin, she seemed to enjoy just being with everybody. That doesn't remind me of me at all!!!

The fam, Kate is distracted by cousin on the ground saying, "Say Cheese Kate!"

Although we brought the stroller, dad was a good sport & toted me around most of the evening.

I am leopard, hear me roar.
Incidentally, she does say "roa". We're trying to condition her to say that when we ask, "What does a lion say?" She thinks its quite fun when we ask her, but she hasn't become consistent in her responses.

Megan came with B & J. Boy it was nice to have an extra set of hands when we were trying to eat our hot dogs & eat our popcorn. Kate really wanted hot dog & popcorn, but her palate isn't quite developed enough for that.

I LOVE these things. Do you think I could lick it or eat it?
The Money Shot

She was a little off her feed when we first arrived. I think she was put -off by the crowds. The moment she saw cousin Lydia and was able to get down on the grass and play, she was all smiles.

We can't convince Lydia not to say "cheese" when she gets her picture taken. This is the face that results. I've started telling her, JUST SMILE, DON'T SAY CHEESE. Then she says. . .
"Smile"

With dad, checking out all the people, BEFORE Lydia showed up. This is her jowly look.

Our church did the whole dress up like a Bible character or missionary/famous historical spiritual figure but we called it a Reformation party. The evening started by each person giving clues to the group as to who they were and everyone else had to guess. We also had games but they all had a spiritual lesson. It was tons of fun. Unfortunately our church in g'ville doesn't do that or a fall festival type thingy.

I can't wait until Greta has enough hair for bows. She's already got 5 adorable ones courtesy of Aunt Julie - now she just needs the hair!

She doesn't really have enough hair for real bows, but clips look pretty cute. You have to press down pretty hard to get it to snap, so I didn't use them on her when she was younger -- that's right on her soft spot. But they are sooo cute, even if they don't stay in for very long.

That looks like fun!

I had a little bit of everything growing up - chuch festivals, trick-or-treating, and just buying our own candy.

Steph,

I developed that roll, and I had a few sun spots in the pic. I should post them just so you guys can see, but you may want someone to take the pic again. I didn't have my sun shade thingey on, and apparently I had it at just the wrong angle or something.

Yeah - I forgot about the mommy/baby picture. We should definitely try again if the pics you took aren't "good." I don't think I've seen them...

I just caught up on your blog. So many great pictures!! The colors were astounding at the falls. I'm wondering if this is where Mom and I went last winter. I remember a lot of stairs at one place. Dad
