I always thought of myself as a beach baby. .

Little did I know that my little Kate would want to be a Breech Baby. :-) At least, she is at this point. Her buns are down in my pelvis and her head is up by my ribs. She has 6 1/2 more weeks to flip around so that she's lined up PROPERLY with her runway, but I'd appreciate your prayers about it. For those of you who aren't up on your obstetrics, neither doctors nor midwives deliver breech babies vaginally anymore (for lots of good reasons), so if she's holding on to her position for good, it'll mean a C-section. That's not the end of the world or anything, it's just a very different outcome than I had even considered.

The midwife gave me a handout that included some "excercises" to do to ASSIST the baby to turn. There's little excercise involved; they are more like positions. Basically, you lay on the floor and elevate your pelvis. This is supposed to make the baby uncomfortable and encourage them to move. Other aspects that they suggest are visualization. This is where it got hilarious. You're supposed to talk to the baby and tell her, "Kate, move around, point your head down toward my cervix." Yes, it got that explicit!

Other slightly less corny tips were placing headphones with music low on your pelvis or a flashlight to give them something to move towards. Look to the light! Apparently, babies are more attracted to Baroque music than to Romantic music. . So, play Bach, not Debussy. :-) Isn't that hilarious??? The last thing the midwife suggested was putting some ice on the top of my belly, once again to encourage the discomfort and help baby to move! Well, we'll see how devoted I will become to cooky methods of un-breeching babies.

Mommies, keep reading. . I have some questions for you.

Okay this may sound really silly but I've heard of several couples who've had success getting the baby to turn by talking to the baby and telling the baby to turn around.

By the way, "lined up with her runway", CRACK ME UP! :-)

Josh had his first run at talking the baby into turning last night. We had a fun time.

I'm glad to know my suggestion wasn't completely crazy. If you get a pamphlet from your doctor telling you to do it, it must be scientific. :-P

I think the ice on the belly sounds much more uncomfortable for you than for Kate. I would definitely leave that one as a last resort.

My personal favorite from one of my birthing books was to "be the baby." Yes, that meant you had to get in touch with your inner baby, and really communicate that way with your child. When the two of you reached an understanding, your baby would come out correctly.
Seriously, though, you could try sitting on a PT ball. I heard that works too. Or dive into a pool. That would get your belly cold too....

Those are some interesting and hilarious suggestions to get a baby to turn. Hopefully one of them will work although I am not sure I would want to try all of them....esp. the ice one.

We will be praying that Kate will turn so that you don't have to have a c-section.

I also read about the pool theory. You are actually supposed to do it in a Physical Therapy Pool (so it's warmer than a regular pool), thus allowing your muscles fully to relax. Secondarily, you are supposed to swim around for a bit letting yourself relax. Thirdarily, you are supposed to do a headstand (I guess as long as you can hold your breath). Anyway. . enjoy more of these crazy proposals.

Hey, you don't know me but anywayz, I found your blog through some other friends etc etc. I just thought I would comment (my mom is a midwife so I hear allllll about this stuff....) but going to a chiropractor beforehand can really help with turning the baby. My two younger siblings were both breech and my mom went to the chiropractor and he turned them. This was like in the last week and they were both overdue. So, it might be something you could look into if talking to the baby doesn't work!lol ;) Just an idea...
