Calling all Mommies!

I'm currently in the straits of thinking about nursery furniture. I feel like I'm a little behind the 8 ball here, but I have some queries for all the experienced mommies out there.

1. What do you think of these lifetime cribs? Did any of you buy one and actually use the toddler portion?? Unfortunately, if it's not worth it, it seems virtually impossible to find a crib that does NOT convert in a style that I like.

2. What do you think about cribs without the movable gate on one side? In other words, they are fixed lower than the back. The particular one I was looking at seemed quite low to me which is actually a good thing since I'm a shorty. It does have variable mattress positions, however.

3. Do you any of you have WHITE crib furniture and do you think that the paint holds up to child abuse as well as a stain might????

4. Do any of you have any particular commendations on your crib or brand of crib??

Thanks for your input! Sorry to you non-Mom's for this particularly focused post.

You better get you some furniture, girl!

1. Our crib converted to a toddler bed, but we never used it. We went from the crib to a twin sized bed. If it's one that converts all the way to a twin or double, you should think about whether you want future children to do the same type thing or be able to reuse the crib.

2. I think it would make me nervous. Once a baby starts standing up, you don't want then to topple over the side. Plus, you would probably have to go to a toddler bed sooner...since a lot of little onces decide to try and climb out.

3. No white for us.

4. Nope...it was good, but nothing overly exciting to rave about.

I didn't like the cribs that fixed lower than the back for the same reason. As soon as Kate gets big enough for acrobatics, you're not going to be very happy that she can flip herself over the rail...
I LOVE my crib. I got it from a baby store in loganville, right off 78. I think it was called New Baby Products. Anyway, they had a good deal of options, and several that were not convertable ones. I got so irritated when I was looking for a crib for Emma since that seemed to be all that was out there, but this store had lots of options, unlike Babies r us. They also had good prices. I also suggest that you go with a foam mattress. It's much much lighter than regular ones, and just as safe.(I got a discount for buying both from the same store..)
I got a lot of my info from a book called Baby Bargains. If you want to borrow mine, you are more than welcome to it.
One last thing. Don't get one from Burlington Coat Factory. I have heard they have an AWFUL return pollicy. Okay I will stop now.

Okay okay..one last thing. Order soon. Otherwise you aren't going to have a crib for that munchkin. The place I got mine from had it in stock, so that was very convenient.

Hey Elizabeth! I've never commented before, but I (obviously) read occasionally. :-) This is Rebecca James. First of all, Congratulations! I'm excited for you and Josh!

This (http://armsreach.com/) made those first few months with baby so much easier for us. I really wish I had known about it with Emily. Claire (our second baby) sleeps in it very well and it is so easy to just roll over and pull her close to me when she gets hungry. I even feed her in my sleep sometimes! It has worked out really well and we all get more sleep this way which is always a good thing. I wake up in the morning not feeling like I was "up" 3 times in the night to feed her because really I doze through all of her feedings. She is 8 months now and still sleeps in it. She is getting a little bigger and mobile for it so we'll get out Emily's old crib for her naps soon, but continue to use the co-sleeper at night. Emily went straight from the crip to a twin bed with no transition and it went really smoothly. We decided against one of the lifetime cribs since we knew we wanted more kids.
Here is some more useful information on co-sleeping. :-)

To alay everyone's fears, I will let you know that I currently am in possession of a cradle and a changing table. So, we're ok as far as the immediate future. Places I've looked at so far have had everything in stock that I might have wanted.

Burlington Coat Factory has changed their cash back policy, but they still have just a 30 day policy and it has to be BACK IN THE BOX.

Amy, thanks for the tip on the place to buy. I'm feeling like I'm running out of some options.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. That's exactly what I was looking for.
