i came home with a potty

So, today was the big day for Babies R Us around here. I've been waiting & waiting for a new BRU that's relatively close to us, and close to other things I go to, to open up! I set that as my date for buying Kate her little potty. So, today, opening day, I went & bought 2 potties & potty covers for public toilets! :-) One potty in the house, one in the trunk. I know we're not really to the point of needing the one in the trunk, but I thought I would put my $5 off coupon to good use. Star94 was there to assist BRU in their Grand Opening & were giving away prizes. They had just about used up all of their prizes, so as we were walking towards them, I saw the lady at the booth putting away their prize wheel (as in spin the wheel to find out if you win a water bottle, t-shirt, or a Little Einstein DVD). I didn't really get the significance of her putting away the wheel until afterwards. We walked up to the booth & asked what they were giving away. She offered us a water bottle & I took it. Lydia noticed the Little Einstein Dvd's & saw that THEY had the same one as she did at home. So, she wanted this one for her 'friend Kate.' I told her her to ask the lady. She did. . .and the lady gave it to us! Hurray for cute kids! Having Lydia & Kate with me helped me swing another deal inside, too. I had two $5 off coupons which you aren't supposed to use on the same purchase (or probably the same day), but the cashier let me split my purchases into two transactions & I got to save $10. So, we came away with 2 balloons, some free chick-fil-a coupons, a Little Einstein CD & 2 potties! Yeah Grand Opening!

I've never carried one in the trunk. In what cases do you expect to use it?

I love BRU. I wish ours was a bit closer.

Oh--and I bought the same potty for my daughter, except that it's red. She thinks it's fun to pretend to use it. I guess we've got to start somewhere!

JM, I think it helps you avoid public restrooms for a lot longer. :-) Jen would be the most knowledgeable as I have actually seen her kids use it (in the trunk, no less!). I can also imagine pulling it out at Mima & Papa's house.

For everyone's enjoyment: Kate has sat on the potty, wiped (not herself, but the potty), and pretended to empty (along with the sound effect ssshhh) the pee pee into the big potty. No ACTUAL peeing, though. She did tell me today when she was "tinkling" in her diaper. I think I've used this word once & she caught on quickly.

I'm realizing that this is a whole new world! Life will suddenly get much more complicated until she's done (2 years from now!) potty training when it will suddenly become easier.

well, I have a correction.. I have only seen Jen's KID singular use it. Lauren's not quite up to speed on the trunk potty yet.

The whole idea of going in the trunk just sounds gross to me. But then, I have only had experience with a boy...and he didn't have to sit down at public restrooms too often. We did have a fold-out seat that stayed in the diaper bag, though...just in case.

I will chime in here...

If we had a van, the whole portable potty thing would have been SO much easier. We have used it, although not maybe quite as much as I expected when running errands etc. The main reason why is that I quickly found out that Lydia can "hold it" for a loooong time. I think I was fearful due to stories told by some moms of kid's with very little bladder control!
Also, I couldn't imagine tackling the public restroom with Lauren in tow as well. In the end, we've adapted and it hasn't been bad.
