Finally Fall

The weather & colors are gradually whispering "fall" to my tired summer ears. I do love the summer, but there's just something about reds, oranges, and yellows along with long sleeve shirts that really make a season. On our trip two weekends ago to Amicalola Falls, we were able to enjoy the season as it should be enjoyed -- out of doors. It happened to be one of Jen's only free weekends, so the Johnsons joined us on our little Fall Adventure. The fact that you drive directly by the Dawsonville Outlets had nothing to do with it, I'm sure.

Josh & I arrived before B, J, & L's, so we decided to check out one of the possible trails. Our checking out turned into doing the hike to the Falls. It was one of those things where you just kept saying to yourself, "It can't be THAT much farther, can it?" The hike is relatively easy, except for the 273 stairs that you must climb to get to the observation deck at the foot of the falls. Yup, you read correctly, two hundred seventy three. Now, that was quite a trek for my out of shape self, but then, I did it TWICE. We saw the waterfall (which was beautiful), and then decided that Ben & Jen should be here by now, so we walked down the hill, fully intending to tell them that we should probably take the handicap accessible path if they wanted Lydia to walk. Well, it seems I underestimated myself & Lydia. (In the back of my mind, I'm thinking, those little Harpers did, you can, too!) I made it back up the stairs, this time at Lydia's pace, which was just faster than a snail's, but much, much cuter.

Lydia did all of the steps on her own!
What a cute, cute snail!

Baby Lauren was with momma, and baby Kate was with her dad. Both kids seemed to enjoy their carriers immensely. This is somewhat of a surprise for Kate, since she rarely spends time in hers. We took a more challenging route back down to the cars. Let's just say some parts were "tricky," and I wasn't even holding a baby! The sweet air, beautiful colors, and great company made this trip a lot of fun! Next time, we'll just make sure that downtown Dawsonville isn't closed down due to a HUGE, HUGE Dawson County Fair. We spent 15 or 20 minutes in a town that should have taken us 2 minutes to drive through.
Momma & Boo both love our hoodies.

At the foot of the falls. . .

Josh gave her a leaf to play with, which of course, she tried to eat. Guess who had to pick up a leaf to be like her cousin?
Can I have some salsa with this leaf? (YUP, Dad gave her salsa last week. She didn't really like -- as you can imagine!)

Jen had Lauren strapped on the entire time. Way to go, Jen!

Kate's thinking: Get me out of this thing! I've got a diaper the size of a burrito!

Great pictures, Liz, and glad we are able to inspire you all. :) Hopefully we can go together sometime. I'll try to remember the names of the other places that M told Josh about. Happy Fall!

Brian, Trisha, Dax and I made that trip twice. The first time Trisha was 7 or 8 mos pregnant with Kaeden. You should have heard the comments she got. It was hilarious! And the second time, I was pregnant, though we hadn't told anyone yet, so no comments for me! I think it's gorgeous down there, and I would love to go back!

What brand are y'alls carriers? I can't tell if they are baby bjorns or snuglis or what. :-)

It looks like Lauren is munching down on the carrier, so between the three of them, it could be thought that you are starving my grandchildren!

I really like the tree picture...did Josh take that one?
That was a fun day - we should try that kind of an outing again. Hey, I'm free come 2008 - should we start planning =)

It looks like you guys had a great time. I loved the picture of the tree taken from below. I had wanted to do that similar shot with a few trees around here, but just didn't get out in time before the leaves fell. :( Looking at teh last pic, I was amazed at how similar you all look. I know that it has something to do with two families marrying, and they do say that people marry people who have somewhat similar features, but.. It was a great picture!!!

Kelley - Lauren is in a bjorn and Kate is in an Eddie Bauer version.
I'm sure one of those Moby wraps would be way more comfy for extended use... but I have been pleased with the bjorn for moderate use around the house and running errands when we have to get in and out of the car a few times.

Kelley -- as mentioned, Kate is rarely in hers, but it provides a lumbar support and nice padding on all of the straps. I don't like how all the straps dangle when it's adjusted to my size, but it's a perfect carrier for Josh to use. As Jen said, it's an Eddie Bauer.

Mom -- we are NOT starving your grandkids. They are just the right size -- on the smallish size, but cute & adorable! They can't wait to see you soon.

Jen -- Josh told me to take a pic of the trees, but I actually took it. He spotted the pretty color. I was a bit reluctant -- after all, what have I done with all of my gorgeous nature/architectural shots? Framed them? Displayed them? NO. They are just the sort of pictures that you don't know where to put in an album, and when people are really looking at pictures of your kids, do they want to see mediocre pictures of trees, close ups of flowers, etc? Not really. They just get skipped. If I had a digital, I'd do more, I'm sure. But, each picture is precious, so I try to conserve. Anyway, the picture came out better than I expected. Hoorah!
