Baptismal Heritage

Sixty plus years ago, Grandma Inez Bailey baptised her first son, David. She bought a gorgeous gown that was then used by each of her three sons and their children. Kate was a part of the proud third generation to use this precious gown at her baptism. We added our own touch by using the hand crocheted coat and bonnet to keep her warm. Thanks Kelley! The whole outfit was a real hit. And, we managed to make it through the event without anything horrible happening to the heirloom dress (like a blowout!).

We had a dress rehearsal the morning before church.

The happy family before church started. We asked Mike to record the baptism so that Kate can hear it one day.

Another cute sleeping picture. She mostly sleeps on her back. I occasionally put her on her belly, but she does NOT prefer it. This is mostly because she also likes to be swaddled when she's sleeping. And, swaddling and sleeping on the belly do NOT go hand in hand. How would you like to be in a straight jacket and then placed in that position? For that matter, who wants to be in a straight jacket, I guess.

Kate enjoys her swing quite a bit. The cute little stuffed animal is a wee little lamb puppet given to her by Nan.

The sleeping pic is too cute. And the one in the swing actually shows a little bit of belly beneath that onesie!!

Such a sweet tradition. We have one that we use for all the boys and hope to frame when we are done.

I just caught up on your blog, Elizabeth. Somehow, although I am almost an obsessive e-mailer, I haven't gotten into checking blogs yet. My comment is that now I see so much of you in Kate, when you were a baby.

She looked adorable. Baptisms are beautiful things. I am glad you got such good pics (and the recording) to capture it.

Kate looks so angelic in her gown. What a beautiful baby! I just got caught up with your blog. You look great in the family picture!

I am happy to hear that she prefers to sleep on her back which is the recommended way to put baby's to sleep to prevent SIDS until they are older and can pick up their head well. Another little tid bit of info if you have just fed her and are putting her to sleep, laying her on her right side will aid in digestion since thats the way the stomach flows. Also if she's gassy put her on her left side. This will help the air to surface based on the configuration of the colon. They sell little wedges to help hold the baby in place while sleeping on the side, but tightly rolled baby blankets work just as well. This works for adults too. If you're gassy sleep on the left. If you just ate on the right! I may not be a mom but I am a CPN (Certified Pediatric Nurse).
